The Adidas Jr. 3SSB National Championship featured some of the best young talent in the country, and 5’6″ Elijah Byrd wasted no time making his presence felt. In his debut with All Covered Prospects 2033, Byrd played with confidence and composure, helping his team secure statement victories over #13 D-Up and #2 Phenom United Buckeye Prep while proving he belongs among the nation’s rising prospects.
Against nationally ranked #2 Phenom United Buckeye Prep, Byrd finished with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting (53%), including 2-of-3 from three-point range (67%), in All Covered Prospects’ 52-46 victory. He scored efficiently from all three levels, confidently knocking down shots off the catch and creating offense off the dribble.
What separates Byrd from many guards in the 2033 class is his complete offensive game. His handle allows him to create separation with ease, especially attacking to his left or right, while his court vision consistently produced high-level cross-court passes that kept the defense scrambling. He also dished out 4 assists, proving he’s just as capable of creating for teammates as he is creating his own shot.
On the defensive end, Byrd was equally impactful. He finished with 4 steals by anticipating passing lanes and turning defense into offense, while adding 1 block and showing the versatility to defend multiple positions throughout the game.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from Byrd’s performance was his poise. Playing on one of youth basketball’s biggest stages against elite national competition in his first tournament with All Covered Prospects, he embraced every challenge, welcomed the big moments, and consistently wanted the basketball when his team needed a play. His all-around impact helped propel All Covered Prospects to one of the marquee wins of the Adidas Jr. 3SSB National Championship.
